Are you looking forward to straightening your smile? The good news is that you don’t need to put up with metal brackets and wires. Instead, you have the option of Invisalign. Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners to gently shift your teeth into their aligned positions. There are all sorts of benefits of the treatment, but how long can you expect it to take? Read on to learn which factors play a role and some steps you can take to finish your treatment as soon as possible.

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

Everyone is different, so every person’s teeth move at a different pace. While the average time needed to complete Invisalign is about 12 months, there are all sorts of factors that can impact the length of your treatment. Here are some things that can alter your treatment time.

  • Severe Alignment Issues: Some individuals require more in-depth changes to achieve the end results. When you have issues related to the teeth and jaw, it may take additional time to complete your treatment.
  • Overcrowding: Mild crowding of the teeth may only take six months or so, but if you have more severe overcrowding, you could be looking at additional time.
  • Gaps: If you have large gaps between the teeth, treatment will likely take longer. This is because the teeth need to move further.

How Can You Sleep Up Your Treatment?

While Invisalign cannot be rushed, there are some steps that you can take to increase the likelihood of everything going smoothly and as planned.

  • Always Wear Your Aligners: In most cases, when a treatment doesn’t go as expected, it’s because the patient didn’t wear their aligners as often as they should have. Be sure that you are always wearing your aligners for 22 hours each day. Only take them out to eat, drink, and clean your teeth.
  • Maintain Good Oral Hygiene: If you need to get other dental work done in the middle of your treatment due to poor oral hygiene, this can get in the way of your Invisalign treatment. You should always brush and floss before putting your aligners back in.
  • Attend Your Appointments: You have occasional appointments during your treatment to ensure that everything is going as planned. This way, if there are any issues, adjustments can be made to keep you on track.

When it comes to Invisalign treatment, patience is important. By utilizing the tips above, you will have the beautiful results you are looking for in just a matter of time!
