Here are some of the most common:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Poor oral hygiene:<\/strong> When you have braces, it can be more difficult to keep your smile clean because food and plaque stick easier to them. Bacteria grows in these areas and can induce gum inflammation, also known as gingivitis.<\/li><li><strong>Movement:<\/strong> Braces cause your teeth to slowly move to new locations. This causes a small amount of inflammation to develop around your teeth.<\/li><li><strong>Health conditions:<\/strong> If you have underlying medical conditions, such as diabetes or obesity, you may be more prone to having gum inflammation and other issues. This is why it is so important to discuss your medical history as well as any medications you are taking with your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epospecialists.com\/dr-jan-ortiz.html\">orthodontist<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Can You Prevent Gum Tenderness?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a few tips that may be able to help reduce some of the inflammation that you are experiencing in your mouth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Rinse your mouth multiple times daily with a saltwater rinse.<\/li><li>Take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication that can help to reduce swelling and discomfort.<\/li><li>Don\u2019t eat tough, hard-to-chew foods when your gums are feeling particularly sore.<\/li><li>Floss every day to reduce inflammation of the gums. You could also use a waterpik, but this is not a substitute for regular flossing.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Is Gum Contouring?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Gum contouring is the process of removing excess gum tissue in order to expose more of the tooth\u2019s surface for better aesthetics and function. This could be the answer if your gums haven\u2019t receded properly, or a tooth is emerging slower than expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are unhappy with the appearance of your smile because you think it looks too \u2018gummy,\u2019 you could also opt for this procedure once you have your braces removed. If your dentist agrees that this is a good option for you, they will remove excess gum tissue in order to give your teeth a longer appearance. This way, you will have a more symmetrical, balanced smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gum inflammation is frustrating, but you don\u2019t need to settle for it.
